Almost there

the first year of our wee quilters' group ended tonight with only a few stitches left to sew. It was best not to rush at the last minute. As you see in the photo, our first effort looks wonderful especially hanging from a broom! We'll be sourcing a curtain pole over the summer and have a 'hanging event' in August. We plan to run a car boot sale in July to raise money for our next project. Watch this space for photos from Crail in July.

Tuesday 19th February Progress report

well, a few changes to report.
We have moved to a fortnightly meeting on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 till 9pm because the community choir has pinched our slot on Mondays! More choristers than quilters so we have to give way. It suits most folk but we have lost Liz Gavin which is such a shame. Tuesdays aren't written in stone though. There might be a better time for us, but we'll run with this for the time being.
Tonight we did a review for Open Door reports just to see how folk feel we are progressing. All nice yellow smiley emoticons so we must be on the right track. We did talk about the fact that not everyone can get sewing when we are all working on one project. So we can bring our own sewing projects from home if we want. Margaret brought her own little quilt tonight and also her knitting!
before we next meet Dianne and another will visit Peter Greig Linen works, the last linen makers in Scotland, to purchase some cloths, tweed maybe,  to make patchwork cushions. that will keep us working away individually. And the next project which will be very exciting will definitely be individual projects coming together as one. We have interest from 4 people this week asking to join the group. I hope they will come along on 2nd February. Hey - Just noticed our coffee mugs match the quilt!

St Andrew's Day

Only four quilters at the group tonight - the others must be celebrating St Andrew's Day.

The six large squares have now been joined together. Next week we will be concentrating on the plain backing colour - we've chosen a mustard shade.

Monday 19 October 2015

We expected to take around a year to make this wall hanging but the speed with which we sewed squares tonight was astonishing! the first 4x4 square almost complete - 5 more to go.
We have a cup of tea and a biscuit and sit round a large table, blethering -Lots of girl talk. Liz Gavin joined us tonight and Kerry Sinclair came to see what we were up to. hoping they will join the group.
lovely activity for ladies.

Monday 12 October 2015

Seven quilters met October 2015 and chose the first project - a wallhanging for the Methven Hall, the main community hall in Bennchy Church. A simple pattern of batik squares was chosen. Sewing starts next week!

Fun and Find Out Day stall

As another means of gauging how much interest there might be in a quilting group for the community to join, a stall was set up at the annual community Fun and Find Out Day at Bennochy Church. People were invited to come and hand sew squares of material together and chat about their interest in the subject. Just look at the result!!

A beautiful patchwork cushion was created in a couple of hours.  Eleven names put forward and so under he auspices of the Open Door Project,  a Quilting Group has just been born. How exciting! Let's keep this very first photo of our work as our identifying icon on the church website, ladies. I wonder where this might lead.....
